Interview Helper — Senior Java Engineer
ContractRemote — US
About the role
Part-time contract role for a senior Java engineer who wants to spend a few hours a week helping our candidates prep for technical interviews. You'll run mock interviews, give honest feedback, and occasionally sit in as a technical advisor on our intake calls. This is not a recruiting job. It's a craft job.
Responsibilities
- Run 60-minute mock technical interviews with TSH candidates (mostly Java, occasionally adjacent stacks).
- Provide written feedback the candidate can actually act on — what they nailed, what they fumbled, what they should brush up on before the real interview.
- Sit in on a small number of intake calls each month to help us assess senior-level candidates.
- Stay current enough to coach — Spring Boot, modern testing, system design at the service-architecture level.
- Occasionally help us calibrate a hiring manager's bar when we're not sure if their expectations match the rate they're offering.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of Java engineering experience, with at least 3 at senior or staff level.
- Strong fluency in Spring, JVM internals at a working level, distributed systems fundamentals.
- Genuine interest in coaching. Not every great engineer wants to do this work; we're looking for the ones who do.
- Available for 4-8 hours per week, scheduled in advance.
Nice to have
- Prior experience interviewing for FAANG or comparable rigor environments.
- Open-source contributions or technical writing we can read.
- Background in a regulated industry (extra context for our healthcare and financial services clients).
Compensation
Hourly contract, paid biweekly. Rate set during the offer conversation based on experience and availability.
